The Museum of Scottish Lighthouses is committed to making our museum appealing to a wide range of educational groups.  Above all, we aim to make your visit enjoyable and memorable. The history and collections can provide inspired and original contexts for any number of learning aims. Contact us to see how we can cater for you.

Group visits:
We are happy and well-practised in welcoming a variety of educational age groups.  Please download the appropriate Visit Pack to help you in your preparations:

Our Museum Assistant who is responsible for outreach is also available to visit institutions or groups of all ages if a visit to the museum is not possible. Booking in advance is essential for this service. See our contact page tab above.

Loan box:

You can borrow one of our loan boxes for your school project or youth group if a visit to the museum is not possible!

The lighthouse loan box contains a lighthouse keepers jacket, flag, beacon lens, torch, binoculars, plate, signal flag set, knot tying string and instructions, thermometer, rain gauge, prism box, light box, lens set and mirror set. Also related books and worksheets for all primary school age ranges.

Please get in touch to exchange ideas and make a booking. We look forward to working with you.

Let us come to you:

Sadly, it may not always be feasible for you to bring your educational group to us. So let us come to you! We can shed light (pun intended) on life in and around these wonderful lighthouses. We take activities, encourage games and questions and bring along our very own lighthouse treasure chest to inspire your children and spark discussion.

Contact us for more details. We’re always happy to hear from you.
